: Sam Altman’s Worldcoin is shifting from cryptocurrency to focus on biometric identification technology. The company is now called World and has unveiled a new device named Orb, which uses NVIDIA’s Jetson chipset. The Orb is designed to verify human identities using an identification service called Deep Face. Nearly 7 million people have been scanned to date.
Worldcoin, co-founded by Sam Altman, is now pivoting away from cryptocurrency. Instead, its focus is on identity verification technology with the launch of a device named Orb.
Orb uses biometric eye scanning as part of an identity service known as Deep Face, intended to combat image fraud like deep fakes. The technology employs NVIDIA’s Jetson chipset to confirm identities swiftly and accurately.
At a San Francisco event, co-founder Alex Blania and Chief Device Officer Rich Heley emphasized the on-demand availability of the Orb. With nearly 7 million scans completed, World aims to expand proof of human verification globally.
