Samsung's Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 stun with major design updates and tech enhancements.

: Samsung has unveiled its redesigned Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 at the Galaxy Unpacked event in Brooklyn, New York. These phones offer transformative design improvements, including a larger back cover screen on the Z Flip7 and a slimmer, lighter profile on the Z Fold7. Key features include Google AI integration, DeX technology for larger displays, and advanced photography enhancements. Despite possible price increases due to tariffs, Samsung believes these foldables will reignite interest in the category.

Samsung has launched its latest foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, revealing significant design updates that aim to revitalize the foldable phone market. The announcement was made at the Galaxy Unpacked event held in Brooklyn, New York. Both devices run on Android 16 and introduce substantial changes compared to their predecessors. Samsung hopes these changes, including larger screens and enhanced camera technology, will attract more users to the foldable category, a market segment previously dominated by standard smartphone designs.

These new models feature several notable improvements. The Galaxy Z Flip7 boasts a back cover screen that now occupies the entire rear section when folded, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and functionality. While Motorola previously introduced this design approach with its Razr series, Samsung's implementation comes with a full HD resolution of 1048 x 948. Additionally, DeX technology is available for the first time in the Flip series, enabling a desktop-like experience when connected to a larger monitor. The device includes a 4,300 mAh battery, the largest in the Flip lineup.

For the Galaxy Z Fold7, Samsung has made even more drastic changes. The device now measures a mere 8.9 mm in thickness when folded and weighs 215 grams, making it lighter and easier to handle than its predecessor. The internal screen has been expanded to 8.0 inches, providing 11 percent more screen area compared to the Z Fold6. This expanded screen area allows users to run multiple applications side-by-side, enhancing productivity.

Both the Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 integrate Google's Gemini AI, allowing for voice-powered data requests and multimodal interactions. Samsung has equipped the Z Fold7 with advanced photography features like a 200 MP main lens and 10-bit HDR processing. Moreover, all Z Fold7 models globally are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Galaxy Edition chip, unlike previous models that used Samsung's Exynos chips in some regions.

However, the pricing of these devices remains a topic of concern for some. The Z Flip7 maintains its previous price point, while the Z Fold7 sees an increase. Samsung has introduced a lower-cost FE model for the Z Flip7 to cater to more budget-conscious consumers. Despite the potential for higher costs due to tariffs, Samsung is confident that the compelling design and features of the new foldables will encourage consumers to adopt these innovative devices.
