See the Samsung Galaxy Flip 7 and Fold 7 undergo extreme bend and scratch tests

The Samsung Galaxy Flip 7 withstands extreme bends and scratches, proving its toughness.

: Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 were tested for durability by JerryRigEverything. The Z Flip 7, priced at $1,100, shows significant improvements in strength, surviving full-strength bends with internal clicks. The outer display, made of Gorilla Glass Victus 2, resists scratches at Mohs level 6, while the inner polymer screen is less durable. Despite rough handling, both models maintain their structural integrity, showcasing advanced durability.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 underwent a series of durability tests including scratch, burn, dust, and bend trials conducted by JerryRigEverything. The external FlexWindow with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 began showing scratches at Mohs hardness level 6 and deeper at level 7. It endured flame exposure for up to 20 seconds and survived intense bending attempts without hinge failure, indicating excellent structural integrity.

However, the inner foldable display remains a weak point. It scratched as early as Mohs level 2, meaning it can be damaged by a fingernail. Flame tests caused permanent discoloration, and dust exposure made the hinge creaky but still operational. These issues underscore the fragility of the flexible screen despite the phone’s overall resilience.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 performed similarly well in tests. Its cover display also scratched at level 6, and the internal display at level 2. Despite being the thinnest Fold model yet, it survived multiple bends with no structural failure, demonstrating robust design improvements. The hinge remained intact even under reverse bending stress.

Samsung received certification from Bureau Veritas stating that the Fold 7 can withstand over 500,000 folds, suggesting a lifespan of over a decade with moderate use. This durability boost comes from a redesigned internal layer system that includes ultra-thin glass, stronger adhesive, and titanium-reinforced components—significantly advancing over the Fold 6’s 200,000-fold rating.

While exterior strength and hinge improvements are clear, the flexible inner screens are still prone to scratches and wear. Samsung offers one free inner screen protector replacement within the first year, but further replacements can cost over $500. The industry’s reliance on soft UTG materials continues to be the limiting factor in foldable durability.
