Sony's throwback PS5 Pro limited edition takes us back to the 90s (Update: and it's gone...)
Sony's limited edition PS5 Pro, celebrating 30 years, sold out instantly due to scalpers. Only 12,300 units were available at $1,000.
Sony's throwback PS5 Pro Anniversary Edition, celebrating three decades of PlayStation, was released on September 26 and sold out in seconds. Only 12,300 units were available at a $1,000 price point. This phenomenon mirrors the scalper challenges faced during the PS5 launch in 2020, with bots likely circumventing checkout processes to secure the consoles instantly.
The Anniversary Edition pays homage to the original PlayStation with a classic gray design and multicolor logo. Each unit is uniquely numbered and includes a two-tone gray DuelSense Edge controller, a 2TB SSD, WiFi 7, and various collector items like cable ties, a PS sticker, a poster, and a PS paperclip. The disc drive is sold separately.
For those seeking other retro-themed options, Sony also offers a 30th Anniversary PlayStation 5 Digital Edition and various controllers. Pre-orders began on September 26 through PlayStation Direct, with retail partner availability following on October 10 for the PS5 Digital. All orders, irrespective of model or retailer, are set to ship on November 21.
