Sorcerers were doing too much magic for Diablo 4's servers to handle, so Blizzard nerfed their most popular build
Blizzard nerfed Diablo 4's popular Sorcerer build due to server issues, increasing damage but reducing AOE effectiveness.
Blizzard had to intervene in Diablo 4's season 5 due to a Sorcerer build that strained the servers with excessive magic. This build, leveraging the Fractured Winterglass amulet to cast numerous lightning spears and frozen orbs, caused significant server lag, especially for high-end players like Mekuna.
To address the issue, Blizzard reduced the frequency of the lightning spear’s chain attacks and adjusted the number of Frozen Orbs conjured. While this change alleviated server problems, it also reduced the build’s efficiency in high-level gameplay, although the damage output of each spear was increased as compensation.
Mekuna reported a substantial drop in damage efficiency, taking longer to clear dungeons. However, players who are not pushing the game’s hardest content may not notice much difference. Blizzard's adjustment aims to balance server stability and gameplay experience.
