Steam Families library sharing is live, and you can all play at the same time
Steam Families library sharing lets up to five members share and play games simultaneously, with features for parental controls.
Steam has officially launched its Families library-sharing feature, following a beta test earlier this year. Up to five family members can be invited to a group, allowing access to a shared family library where each user can create their own save files and collect their own achievements.
One of the key benefits of this new family feature is simultaneous gameplay; multiple members can play games from the shared library at the same time. In situations where multiple copies of a game are owned, multiple members can play that title concurrently, although developers may choose to opt-out of this feature.
The Steam Families feature also includes aspects from the old Steam Family View, such as monitoring and limiting children's access to the platform. Adults can set playtime limits, restrict access to the Steam store, communities, and chat, and recover lost passwords. However, Steam accounts need to be in the same country, and adults must wait a year before joining or creating a new family group.
