The Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake arrives on November 14

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake hits Switch on Nov 14, with reissues of Dragon Quest I & II arriving in 2025.

: The Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake will be available on November 14 for multiple platforms including Switch. The remake uses Square-Enix's HD-2D engine, blending SNES-era graphics with modern effects. Reissues of Dragon Quest I and II using the same engine will follow in 2025.

Square-Enix's reworking of Dragon Quest III, using their innovative HD-2D engine, will launch on November 14 for the Switch. This HD-2D style marries vintage graphics with modern environmental effects, staying true to the original look and feel but enhancing it with modern touches.

The announcement was made during Nintendo Direct, which also brought news on other anticipated titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Metroid Prime 4. Players can look forward to experiencing the nostalgic yet visually enhanced gameplay that the HD-2D engine offers, which has been previously used in games like Octopath Traveller and Live a Live remake.

Additionally, Square-Enix revealed that the first two entries in the Dragon Quest trilogy, originally released in the 1980s, will be reissued using the same HD-2D engine sometime in 2025. This decision, while unconventional by releasing the third game first, respects the chronological order within the game’s universe, providing a complete and immersive storytelling experience.
