The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will finally let you play as Zelda herself

"The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom" lets players control Zelda in a new top-down adventure with unique gameplay elements. Releases September 26 on Switch.

: The upcoming game 'The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom' will allow players to control Princess Zelda herself, marking a significant change in the series. The game starts with Link being pulled into an alternate dimension, leaving Zelda to save Hyrule. It features a top-down perspective and new gameplay mechanics involving a trirod tool.

Nintendo announced 'The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom' during a Nintendo Direct stream, and it's set to release on September 26 for the Nintendo Switch. For the first time in the series, players will control Princess Zelda, flipping the traditional roles seen in previous titles. The game's story begins where most Zelda games end, with Link defeating Ganon but then being sucked into an alternate dimension, leaving Zelda to save Hyrule herself.

The game features a top-down perspective similar to the 'Link's Awakening' remake and introduces new gameplay mechanics. Instead of wielding a sword, Zelda uses a tool called a trirod, which allows her to create 'echoes' of various items to navigate the world and solve puzzles. This brings a sandbox puzzle-solving element similar to 'Tears of the Kingdom' into the game.

In combat, Zelda can utilize echoed items against enemies and even create echoes of monsters to fight for her. The game aims to provide a fresh experience while retaining the charm and complexity of the best Zelda titles. Additionally, a Hyrule-themed Nintendo Switch Lite will be available on the same day as the game's release.
