The Lenovo Solar PC Concept feels like a device whose time has come

Lenovo unveils Yoga Solar PC with solar panels for enhanced energy efficiency at MWC 2025.

: Lenovo introduces the Yoga Solar PC Concept at MWC 2025, featuring photovoltaic panels utilizing Back Contact Cell technology and Dynamic Solar Tracking for efficiency. Weighing 2.6 pounds, it boasts an OLED display, up to 32GB RAM, and a 50.2 WHr battery. The device can power an hour's video with 20 minutes of sunlight and even harvests indoor light energy. Though a commercial release isn't planned, the concept showcases a blend of innovation and design.

At MWC 2025, Lenovo presented the innovative Yoga Solar PC Concept, marking a revival of laptops with built-in solar panels. This 2.6-pound device features photovoltaic panels that employ Back Contact Cell technology for 24% solar energy conversion efficiency, a figure that rivals high-end home systems.

Despite its prototype status, the Yoga Solar PC Concept shares design similarities with Lenovo's Yoga series, including an OLED display, up to 32GB of RAM, and a 50.2 WHr battery, alongside a 2MP IR webcam for Windows Hello. The laptop's solar panels also support Dynamic Solar Tracking, boosting energy collection by automatically adjusting to light conditions.

Remarkably, the Yoga Solar PC can generate sufficient energy to play an hour of video after 20 minutes of sun exposure. Indoors, it gathers power from light as low as 0.3 watts, with an app to track energy absorption. While Lenovo currently has no plans for commercialization, the concept is technologically sound compared to market offerings.
