Threads adjusts algorithm to show more followed content, shifts unconnected reach for creators.
Threads is making changes to its algorithm to show users more content from the accounts they follow. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced that the ranking is being rebalanced to prioritize followed content, resulting in a reduction of recommended content from non-followed accounts. This adjustment is intended to enhance user experience by surfacing more relevant posts.
Mosseri cautioned creators that while the update may lead to a decrease in 'unconnected' reach, it should increase their 'connected' reach. This rebalance aims to thread the needle between reaching followers and maintaining strong engagement. The ongoing changes reflect a work in progress, with an emphasis on keeping user feedback in consideration to improve the platform.
In addition to these algorithmic updates, Threads has introduced a global feature for custom feeds, granting users increased control over their content consumption. Despite Threads' 275 million monthly active users, competitor Bluesky has surpassed 20 million users, showing comparable daily activity. The adjustments come as Meta seeks to stay ahead in the social media landscape.
