Threads is starting to test community notes

Meta tests Community Notes on Threads, replacing fact-checking.

: Meta has begun testing Community Notes on Threads, a feature similar to Twitter's X-style notes. Alessandro Paluzzi leaked screenshots showing the feature, where users can anonymously submit notes rated for helpfulness. This move is part of Meta's plan to change Threads’ moderation policies, allowing more political content suggestions. Users can adjust their feed preferences between three options regarding political content.

Meta is actively testing Community Notes in Threads as a potential replacement for their professional fact-checking program. Developer Alessandro Paluzzi shared leaked screenshots showing a 'Write Community Note' option in Threads, indicating users can anonymously submit notes, which appear if rated as helpful. This setup resembles how Community Notes, formerly known as Birdwatch, are utilized on Twitter's platform.

This development is part of broader changes in Threads' moderation approach, particularly in handling political content. According to Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram and Threads, users will be able to control the visibility of political content in their feeds with three settings: 'See less' to minimize exposure, 'Standard' for some suggestions, and 'See more' for equal treatment with other content.

Although the introduction of Community Notes and political content toggles aligns with Meta's aim to cultivate a 'free speech warrior' impression, it remains uncertain whether these changes address users' actual concerns. Meta's efforts to project this image might not necessarily translate to increased satisfaction among Threads users.
