TI-84 Plus calculator mod adds internet, ChatGPT, and undetectable cheating potential
ChromaLock's mod for the TI-84 Plus adds internet, ChatGPT, and undetectable cheating potential using an ESP32 C3 microcontroller.
ChromaLock's recent modification of the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition and TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition introduces internet connectivity, ChatGPT, and Wi-Fi support to the classic calculator. Using an ESP32 C3 microcontroller, the mod—referred to as TI-32—can emulate another TI-84, connecting the two devices over Wi-Fi and remaining undetectable to teachers and anti-cheating software alike.
ChromaLock's video demonstration shows how the modified calculator can input complex math problems into ChatGPT and quickly obtain vocabulary definitions, among other functions. Users can unlock these features through the calculator's textual interface and are even able to download additional functionalities from a pre-configured server or a home PC.
Further capabilities of the TI-32 mod include changing Wi-Fi settings, color image support, multi-page ChatGPT responses, basic web browsing with HTTPS encryption, and larger menus. Despite the obvious potential for academic dishonesty, ChromaLock maintains that the mod and the accompanying video were created for educational purposes.
