Tinder will try AI-powered matching as the dating app continues to lose users
Tinder turns to AI to improve user matching amidst declining active users.

Tinder is launching AI-powered features to address the decline in its active user base. This is part of an attempt to offer more personalized matches, as explained by Match Group CFO Gary Swidler, and to provide alternatives to the traditional swiping method, which defined the app's early success.
The new AI matching feature is meant to complement swiping rather than replace it, aiming to deliver better quality matches to improve user perception and drive growth. Alongside this, an AI Photo Finder launched last year helps users select optimal profile pictures to improve their dating profiles.
Match Group CFO expressed cautious optimism about these initiatives, but significant growth remains elusive as Tinder's monthly active users and direct revenue have been on a downward trend. New CEO Spencer Rascoff sees AI as a potential industry changer, citing successful examples like TikTok and Instagram, but acknowledges the need for gradual steps to instigate user trend improvement.
