Ubisoft says Assassin's Creed Shadows will have less map icon 'hand-holding', more player-driven exploration

Assassin's Creed Shadows shifts to player-driven exploration with revamped features.

: Assassin's Creed Shadows introduces a player-driven exploration system, moving away from traditional map icon overload. Players will earn information through exploration, scouts, and NPC interactions rather than relying on map markers. Key features like synchronisation points and the classic eagle have been overhauled for more intentional discovery. The game is set for release on March 20th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

Assassin's Creed Shadows is venturing into new territory by focusing on player-driven exploration rather than relying on the traditional abundance of map icons. Ubisoft aims to create a world where information is earned and acts as a reward, engaging players to discover locations across a more immersive map, with region names and hints provided initially.

The iconic synchronisation points have been updated to reveal only nearby key points of interest, allowing players to manually tag and use the compass for navigation. Additionally, players will no longer use the classic companion eagle for spotting enemies but will seek out vantage points to strategize and plan their routes manually.

Ubisoft has also introduced new features such as the Objective Board, which reveals clues to new opportunities and the Pathfinder tool, which aids in navigation by outlining the shortest routes. With the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows set for March 20th, players will be able to explore these revamped mechanics on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
