Windows 11 24H2 is now incompatible with USB scanning devices, too

Windows 11 24H2 brings issues with USB scanners and eSCL protocol devices.

: Windows 11 24H2 is causing compatibility issues with USB scanning devices using the eSCL scan protocol. Microsoft has confirmed that after the upgrade, eSCL-related devices may become undiscoverable, impacting enterprise and SOHO environments. The company has not provided a timeline for a resolution but has recommended refraining from upgrading.

The latest Windows 11 24H2 update has introduced serious compatibility issues with USB scanning devices, specifically those utilizing the eSCL protocol. This protocol, which usually allows for reliable operations over USB and networked connections in MacOS, Linux, and earlier Windows versions, is no longer functioning correctly.

Microsoft acknowledged the problem, stating that devices are unable to properly switch from eSCL mode to USB mode, leading to undiscoverable equipment like scanners, printers, and modems. This issue, evident since the October 1st rollout, has rendered many such devices useless across various user environments.

Currently, Microsoft advises against manually installing the 24H2 update on systems connected to eSCL devices and has initiated a "compatibility hold" to prevent automatic upgrades. The lack of an immediate fix has frustrated users, especially those in enterprise settings, as businesses face disruptions and demand a swift resolution.
