Wizkids apologizes after dodgy 'Baldur’s Gate 3' miniatures face harsh mockery

Wizkids offers refunds for Baldur's Gate 3 figurines mockingly dubbed 'eldritch abominations' due to poor paint jobs.

: Wizkids faced harsh criticism after poorly painted Baldur’s Gate 3 miniatures emerged, prompting a public apology. The $50 Icons of the Realms set was ridiculed online when the paint quality did not match promotional images. Wizkids has removed the set from their website and is offering refunds or replacements to customers. The misstep is part of Hasbro's broader challenges in capitalizing on Baldur's Gate 3 following Larian's success.

WizKids has issued a public apology and is offering full refunds for its Baldur’s Gate 3 miniature set after widespread backlash over poor quality. The $50 Dungeons & Dragons Icons of the Realms set featured characters like Shadowheart, Astarion, and Gale, but fans quickly criticized the paint jobs, distorted features, and missing parts. Some miniatures arrived visibly damaged, sparking strong reactions online.

Social media was flooded with comparison photos showing how far the final products deviated from promotional images. Elodie Ceselli, a senior cinematic artist at Larian Studios, called the figures “not acceptable” and said only the Gale miniature resembled the intended design. Fans expressed disappointment that the characters they loved from the game were poorly represented.

In response, WizKids acknowledged the issue and said, “We missed the mark.” The company is offering full refunds for customers who ordered directly and instructing others to seek refunds from their retailers. They are also providing replacements that meet the expected standards.

Despite the criticism, some collectors believe the flawed miniatures could become rare collectibles in the future. Still, the incident has raised concerns about quality control and product approval processes, especially for merchandise tied to high-profile franchises like Baldur’s Gate 3.

This controversy underscores the importance of maintaining quality in physical products tied to beloved games. While WizKids responded quickly, the situation serves as a warning about how quickly fan trust can be eroded by subpar releases.
