A woman won $1,380 by avoiding her smartphone for 8 hours in a challenge by a Chinese business.
A unique challenge was held by a business in China to determine if people could resist using their smartphones for eight hours, rewarding the successful participant with 10,000 yuan ($1,380). Contestants had to remain lying flat without engaging in activities like reading or watching movies, adding to the challenge's difficulty.
Apart from staying off the smartphone, participants were prohibited from napping and showing signs of anxiety, monitored with a wristband presumably to check on vitals such as heartbeat. Ultimately, a woman, battling the odds in her pyjamas, emerged victorious, highlighting the extent of smartphone addiction revealed by studies over the past decade.
Smartphone addiction has intensified with smartphones becoming essential rather than luxurious. Factors like the isolation during lockdowns and engaging apps contribute to increased device reliance, as evidenced by Americans checking their phones 352 times daily in 2022.
