World's first carbon fiber metro train hits the tracks in China
China launches the first carbon fiber metro train, the Cetrovo 1.0 Carbon Star Express, reducing energy use by 7% and enhancing transit efficiency.

China has launched the Cetrovo 1.0 Carbon Star Express, the world's first passenger metro train made primarily from carbon fiber. This development marks a significant advance in eco-friendly transportation, as the train is 11% lighter, reducing energy consumption by about 7% and cutting CO2 emissions by 130 tons.
The Cetrovo offers more than environmental benefits. With its ultra-light yet strong construction, it promises reduced operational and maintenance costs, increased rigidity, and improved impact resistance, all contributing to a smoother, quieter ride.
Developed by CRRC Qingdao Sifang since 2021, the train underwent extensive testing before being put into service on a 37-mile route in Qingdao. As it runs autonomously, its performance could shift industry standards, influencing the future of mass transit systems across the globe.
