X is building a ‘dislike’ button for downvoting replies
Elon Musk’s X is developing a dislike button for better reply ranking, initially tested in 2021, with features found in the iOS app.
Elon Musk’s X, previously known as Twitter, is actively developing a dislike button to help rank replies more effectively. Originally tested in 2021, this feature has evolved to potentially include a broken heart icon instead of a traditional downvote symbol.
Recent discoveries by reverse engineer Aaron Perris in the X iOS app reveal not only the icon but also text strings prompting users to confirm their downvotes. Another user, @P4mui, showcased the dislike button in action, with current tests limited to replies.
Additional sightings suggest public tests are imminent. This effort aligns with other changes under Musk’s ownership, including hiding public likes to let users engage with more controversial content without damaging their reputation.
