Xiaomi obtains EV production license, prepares for third model
Xiaomi secures a production license for EVs in China, with an increased delivery target and plans for new models.
Xiaomi received the green light from Chinese regulators on July 12 to independently assemble electric vehicles, bypassing its traditional manufacturer ally BAIC. This approval allows Xiaomi to scale up its production with an increased delivery target of 120,000 units this year, up from their original target of 72,000 units.
The company’s first consumer car, the SU7, labeled with the 'Xiaomi' name, is manufactured in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. Since the SU7's launch on March 28, the model has secured 88,898 pre-orders within 24 hours and has reached nearly 26,000 units delivered by its third delivery month in June.
Xiaomi is also preparing to introduce its second all-electric sports utility vehicle in the first half of next year. Additionally, a third model, an extended-range hybrid targeting Chinese families, is scheduled for release in 2026, indicating Xiaomi’s robust plans for expanding its EV lineup.
