X's Grok AI assistant is now a standalone app
Grok AI is now a standalone app, first tested in December 2024, with limited free access.
Grok, the AI assistant developed by xAI, is now available as a standalone app that users can access without needing to visit X, the social media platform. The app was tested with users in December 2024 and comes with features such as generating images, summarizing text, and answering questions in a tone described as 'humorous and engaging.'
The standalone version offers free access, but with specific limitations: users are allowed ten requests every two hours and are limited to three image analysis requests per day. Users have the option of signing in using an Apple account, X account, Google account, or email, though it's yet unclear whether having an X Premium subscription offers any additional privileges.
Grok distinguishes itself from other AI assistants like Gemini and ChatGPT by tackling 'spicy questions' that others might avoid; however, it still struggles with certain accuracy and image generation issues. While Grok's appealing conversational style adds to its uniqueness, a version of its AI model is also made available as open-source, offering users and developers a chance to explore its functionalities more deeply.
