You can now use the Meta Quest as a screen for HDMI devices
Meta's Quest headsets can now be used to display HDMI devices via a new app and capture card setup for $20.
Meta has introduced a new app for its Quest 3, 2, and Pro headsets, enabling them to act as screens for HDMI-capable devices such as consoles and laptops. This functionality is facilitated through the Meta Quest HDMI Link app, which is available for free.
However, setting this up isn't as simple as using Air Link and requires additional hardware—a UVC and UAC compatible 1080p capture card. These capture cards can be found for less than $20 and often feature an HDMI port on one end and either a USB-A or USB-C connection on the other.
Once the necessary app is installed and the capture card connected, the video source can achieve near-zero latency at 1080p and 60fps. The app further allows users to resize the floating screen or reposition the video feed alongside other apps, offering flexibility for various viewing preferences.
