YouTubers built a six foot tall working replica of Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max
YouTubers built a 6.74-foot tall working iPhone 15 Pro Max replica weighing 440 pounds, setting a Guinness World Record.
YouTubers Matthew Perkins of DIY Perks and Arun Maini of MrWhoseTheBoss collaborated on building a working replica of an iPhone 15 Pro Max that measures 6.74 feet tall and weighs 440 pounds. This immense project was recognized with an official Guinness World Record. Perkins began by converting a LG Signature 88-inch OLED TV into a functional touchscreen, using a specially designed piece of touch foil and optically clear glue UV epoxy to integrate it. Other oversized components, including speakers, a three-lens camera array, and various buttons, were fitted into an aluminum frame with a custom support structure.
High-quality cameras, such as a Canon EOS R5 and a Sony RX10 Mark 4, were used to recreate the iPhone's telephoto lens system. The frame was mounted on a similarly scaled phone stand for easy rotation. Despite the inability to recreate Apple's iOS due to its closed-source nature, the Bliss OS was implemented with a themed skin to emulate the iPhone's home screen, allowing for various functionalities including the installation of Flappy Bird, a game long removed from iPhones.
The giant phone proved to be operational, capable of making tap-to-pay purchases, sending emails, and conducting video calls. Maini and his friends took the massive replica into the streets of London to test its capabilities, despite the significant risk involving a $70,000 device. The project showcases not only their technical skills but also their creativity and commitment to pushing technological boundaries.
